A SAMPLE ITINERARY

Ten days, nine nights, eight of them at the base. The long format on one zone. This is the formula for those who want to dig into the Gulf of Chiriquí rather than tour it.

The trip starts like the others: a night in Casco Viejo on arrival, then the switch in one morning. Flight to David, the road, the fonda, the dock, forty minutes of sea. The base is a private thirty-hectare property facing the archipelago, and for the eight nights ahead, it is home.

Seven full days change the nature of the stay. You no longer chase conditions: you wait for them. A window opens offshore, you take it. The wind picks up, you switch to the mangrove or the bay. Meals follow the fishing hours, the cooking is local, the fish comes from the same day. Between outings, the bay remains the permanent playground: a sea that stays readable even when it moves outside, and the kayak a few steps away, you go whenever you want.

It is also the format where the local bivouac makes full sense. A night on an island less than an hour by boat, campfire, night fishing, lobster depending on the mood. And for groups that want to push further, an expedition toward Montuosa or Jicarón can be built as an option.

At this length, you can step out of the program without compromising it. A full day going up a waterfall or walking the jungle's edge steals nothing from the fishing: six others remain. That is the real difference with a short format, this latitude to decide one morning that you are not fishing, at no cost. And there is what cannot be ordered: a school of tuna crossing the boat's path, a caiman resting on the riverbank on mangrove day.

DAY BY DAY

Day 1

Panama City, Casco Viejo

Pickup at Tocumen, transfer to the historic quarter. One night to settle the jet lag.

Day 2

The switch

Flight to David, driver, three and a half hours of road, boarding at the dock. Base in early afternoon, first outing possible.

Days 3 to 5

Offshore

Sea days are taken as they come: tuna on the frenzies, wahoo on the drop-offs, marlin in season. When offshore does not give, the coast takes over.

Day 6

Mangrove and river

Tarpon and snook in another setting. Calm water, precise casts against the roots, silence.

Day 7

Bivouac

An island, a fire, the night outside for those who brought their sleeping gear. Night fishing and lobster depending on the mood.

Days 8 and 9

Desert islands and bay

Wade fishing, spearfishing, shore jigging from the camp beaches, kayak in the bay. The last two days often serve to repeat what worked.

Day 10

FISHING GEAR

Most of the anglers who come to us are experienced practitioners who arrive with their own gear, suited to their style and the species they target. Nothing to add in that case.

For those preparing their first exotic trip, we advise on the right equipment before departure. On site, high-end gear can be rented, and a stock of quality equipment can be lent depending on the outings. This is discussed case by case while preparing the trip.

SEASON

On the Pacific, the high season runs from December to May. It is the pelagic period: marlin, sailfish, wahoo, tuna, dorado. The rest of the year remains very fishable. The bay is protected and coastal fishing works year-round: roosterfish, cubera, jacks, corvina.

With eight nights at the base, every period of the year has its program. The pelagic season adds the offshore game, the rest of the year concentrates play on the coast, the bay and the rivers.

OPTIONS

Local bivouac, nothing more to plan

One night on an island twenty minutes to an hour by boat from the base. Campfire, night fishing, lobster hunting depending on the mood. Nothing more to plan, other than your own sleeping gear: hammock or light tent, bag. To be mentioned while preparing the trip.

Montuosa or Jicarón expedition bivouac, built ahead of time

Thirty-six to forty-five nautical miles from the mainland depending on the island, Montuosa and Jicarón count among the most remote islands of Pacific Panama. Most boats reach them from well-known coastal stations, at the cost of long hours of navigation. Our base sits as close as it gets, facing the Coiba region: twenty minutes to reach Coiba, then the heading to Jicarón and Montuosa, offshore. Leaving from this close is what makes access to this zone exclusive. It remains a true expedition: two nights minimum, heavy logistics, specific equipment, substantial fuel. Costs adjust to the group configuration, personalized quote after a conversation. To be discussed while preparing the trip.
